I see a young man with your build, hair color. And I get this sense of excitment. I think to my self, there's my cousin Matthew. As a get closer to that young man, I realize that it is not you. And I start to cry, then I get angry because your not with us. I want to thank you for coming to me in my dreams. Please visit me more often.
Happy belated birthday my brother in heaven. As we prepare for another year of your passing, it never gets any easier for us. The love and laughter you spread throughout your years here on earth with all of us is forever lasting in my memories and hearts and will be cherished until the end of time. hey matt,R.I.P. wow,its 2005/2006 alredy. I remember, we was was playing football and u was the king of that court. You was so friendly to every body on the court. i cant see how nobody could be your friend. you was always there for us. You and Brandon was watching me,Jason,Artie,Manny,Amy,and James playing either football,basketball,baseball,or whatever. Another time,when me and Brandon let you come in our house,i dont know where Jason or Amy was,but you came in our house and we laid back,watch wrestling,and ate nachos. We was having a great time. Back in the 90's was awesome. But wow,2002 was really shocking. After that year,every thing started to seperate. I move,Brandon in Vegas,Manny somewhere that i dont even know,James move somewhere, I keep meeting Carlos at Target,and yeah man. Yeah,but jason and amy still got a little brother and big brothers too. Trevor,Brandon,Lamonte.we love the Mendez Family,Whereever we go. The last words, Whenever i have to go you are the first friend im looking to search up in heaven. Peace

It was about the fall of 93’ when we first met, and when seeing you and your family outside having a grand ole time while we were moving in to town, I thought to myself, I am ready to make new friends with these people because they like having fun, but little did I know how close our families would be to each other and how great of friends we would become with one another. You and your family greeted us with open arms to your neighborhood and I want to thank the Mendez family for welcoming us. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart! Love Always
“Matty Boy”, you had a great personality that everyone would soon come to love and cherish and your hospitality towards people was remarkable and unforgettable. Our families introduced themselves to each other and history was written. As the time past, we all came to love one another and we took care of each other everyday no matter what! If someone we didn’t know drove through our streets, they were shown the way out and was never to return, “Ya dig!” Your memories have been etched in stone in our hearts and souls forever! I will never forget the kind of person you were and how special it was to have you as a friend. We never shared to anyone else but to each other how great a friend each other were to one another. Years past and we grew up….Remember when we use to sit down on my mom’s old white car and just talked about girls, because that was our topic almost everyday we had to discuss. We’d wanted our wives to have the same qualities as our mothers, because our moms set the standard of how women should be and of course, we wanted to be like our fathers who have this tough personality on the outside, but has a heart softer than a pillow inside when it comes up to their loving and caring for his family. We also talked about our futures and what was in stored for us one day. We dreamed and dreamed and had ideas of our own what we wanted to be in the future. You wanted to be a NFL star and I wanted to be a NBA star, but all in all, we always knew, only Jesus Christ knows what the future holds for us and through him is what we will be in our lives. Our lives are in God’s hands, and our destiny lies within souls to accomplish the dreams and goals we set for ourselves. You and I both had that dream of going to the NBA and the NFL. It was funny because we never wanted to play each other one on one in football or basketball to get even better and to understand that we were each others biggest competition at the age we were at. I knew you would destroy me in football if you ever got your hands on me and vice versa. A gentle giant you were but a lethal weapon that was a force to be reckoned with in football. I enjoyed your company every chance we got to hang out with each other. If I was in the house doing something, Jason would come to me and say, “My brother is outside!” I would stop what I was doing, even if it were my chores, just to come outside and talk to you and see how you were doing and of course, be able to play a little basketball or throw a football to each other. I might’ve gotten in trouble for not doing my chores later, but it was a real honor to hang out with you! When playing sports was involved, we came out in our socks, shorts and t-shirts just to play! We didn’t care about the brand new socks or shoes our moms bought for us, (even though, they screamed and yelled at us for tearing up), we didn’t care because we loved playing sports. God, how I miss those days! Little Amy, Jason, Trevor and the other kids around the block would do the same thing, because we were their role models. Whatever we did, we had to set an example for them to follow. And even though we all were scared of YOU when you got older and bigger, we didn’t show it, (well Jason did) but that’s what you and I taught them. No matter how big the person is, there’s always a way they can be defeated. I must admit, we got upset a few times by Amy, Trevor and Jason, but that’s only because we let them win in the sports we were playing. We had to make them feel good sometimes. It’s not fair being on top all the time, (someone had to do it, why not us!). So, we let them shine a couple of times and I know that’s what you’re doing in heaven right now! Shining! Every time I see a falling star, I know it’s you and Ken throwing passes to each other and lighting up the sky, putting on a show and letting us all know, that your dream of being a star has not been relinquished, because you have become a star in heaven. I know you are watching over your family and friends and I want to thank you for letting me be a part of your life and I will never forget how you and I became friends. Your memory lives on with me for ever. Thank you and I love you Matthew! God Bless your soul!

I can only wish what could have been.You were on your way to becoming the person that was going to a very special individual. Whatever path you chose we would be very proud of your accomplishments. Not only did I know you were on your way,but the great amount of people who came to your services and told us what a beautiful person you are. Respectful and the love of little kids just seperated you from others. I am very proud to be your father, and I know that you will always set the standard of greatness. Now I believe that your sister Amy has taken it upon herself to follow your lead. She has been watching Jason like the big brother you are. I remember you adopted me as a mini sav and man am i ever so proud to be in that crew with you , ken and dre. My little twin brothers used to go to Matt's games and watch him and Ken play football. My sis was the trainers assistant too! Until this day my little brother's are now big-little brothers, and are Jr.'s in high school, still playing football. Every year they have special wrist bands made with the #'s 62 and 69 on them stiched on them. Matt had no idea what an amazing influence and role model he was to others who looked up to him, it came so natural...thanks Matt, for inspiring my brothers to strive to be the best.
